As bolsas de mobilidade do Programa Nova Geração de Cientistas Polares têm como objectivo fomentar a internacionalização de jovens investigadores de temáticas polares e de nacionalidade portuguesa, integrados em instituições nacionais. São destinatários estudantes de mestrado, de doutoramento ou doutorados há menos de cinco anos, sendo abrangidos os seguintes objectivos:
- Objectivo 1 - Participação em reuniões científicas realizadas no estrangeiro com apresentação de comunicação oral ou em poster;
- Objectivo 2 - Realização de estágios de investigação em instituições no estrangeiro até 3 meses;
- Objectivo 3 - Participação em campanhas de investigação nas regiões polares.

Apenas são apoiados os candidatos nas condições identificadas acima, aplicando-se as seguintes regras:
- As candidaturas devem, obrigatoriamente, ser enquadradas em temáticas polares;
- Cada candidato será, preferencialmente, apoiado uma única vez em cada ano civil;
- Para o objectivo 1, em casos de co-autoria da comunicação ou poster a apresentar, é apoiado apenas o autor principal.

As bolsas de mobilidade consistem na atribuição de um estímulo à internacionalização, composto por um montante fixo por objectivo, definido em cada concurso pela Comissão Científica.
Para qualquer das modalidades a concurso, o processo de candidatura deve incluir:
a) Curriculum vitae do candidato;
b) Carta de motivação, enquadrando a acção nos objectivos de investigação do candidato;
c) No caso de estudantes de mestrado ou doutoramento, uma certidão de frequência;
d) Outros elementos considerados relevantes para justificar a candidatura.

Devem ser também incluídos no processo de candidatura os seguintes elementos, por objectivo:
- Objectivo 1: d) Resumo da comunicação a apresentar; e) Programa da reunião; f) Comprovativo de aceitação da comunicação, que pode ser enviado após a candidatura.
- Objectivo 2: d) Plano de estágio (máximo 2 páginas), e) Carta de aceitação na instituição de acolhimento.
- Objectivo 3: d) Plano de trabalhos a desenvolver (máximo 2 páginas), e) Descrição do enquadramento da logística a utilizar e quais os países e instituições parceiras, f) carta de aceitação por parte da entidade que oferece a logística (se aplicável).
Os critérios a utilizar terão em consideração o mérito do candidato, mérito do plano de trabalhos ou comunicação e enquadramento na carreira.

Os beneficiários terão as seguintes obrigações:
a) Envio de um relatório de execução em formato digital para o Comité Polar Português, até 30 dias após a participação na acção, que poderá ser disponibilizado no site Nova Geração de Cientistas Polares da CGD;
b) Ter disponibilidade para dar uma entrevista relacionada com a acção, para divulgação no site Nova Geração de Cientistas Polares da CGD;
c) No caso dos objectivos 2 e 3, contribuir com um texto e fotografias de divulgação da acção para o site Nova Geração de Cientistas Polares da CGD.

Anualmente, haverá dois prazos para recepção de candidaturas:
- Acções a decorrer entre Julho e Dezembro – 20 de Junho de 2011 e 30 de Maio de 2012;
- Acções a decorrer entre Janeiro e Junho – 30 de Novembro de 2011 e 30 de Novembro de 2012.

Investigator Groups involved in the Polar Regions and Coasts in a changing Earth System (PACES) research program. The funding term is five years.

The Earth Institute and Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (EI/LDEO) seek applicants for the 2011-2012 Marie Tharp Fellowship. Fellowship awards may used to pay salary, research, and travel expenses over a three-month period during the time span of September 2011 through August 2012 and must be taken in residence at one of the earth science units of the Earth Institute at Columbia University.

The competition is open to junior and mid-career scientists in the earth sciences. Applicants must hold a PhD at the time of application. The goal of this award is to promote women in science. Full-time or adjunct faculty and researchers at Columbia University are not eligible to apply.

At the Chair of Physical Geography/GIS (Prof. Dr. Volker Hochschild) is a job vacancy from the 1st of May 2011 for the duration of 3 years (projected for 6 years). The position of a Scientist (PhD student) Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L (50 %) for the contribution within the BMBF-F&E programme *Tibet and Central Asia: Monsoon-Dynamics and Geoecosystems* is to be assigned (subject to the confirmation of the BMBF). The candidate works leading in the subproject *Variability and Trends of water cycle components in Benchmark-catchments of the Tibet-Plateau (WET)* in close cooperation with the research partners. The position comprises the organisation of the remote sensing data evaluation as well as the field campaigns.

Tasks:
*       Radar remote sensing (TerraSAR-X, ENVISAT, ALOS),
*       Multisensoral remote sensing data evaluations for the deri-vation of hydrological and biophysical parameters (soil moisture, LAI, evapotranspiration, etc.),
*       Organisation of in-situ measurements in the field (surface roughness, soil moisture, etc.),
*       Parameterisation of hydrological models for the compilation of the water balance of endorheic lake ecosystems on the Tibetan Plateau.

Requirements:
*       Degree (Master, Diploma) in Physical Geography with re-mote sensing, geoinformatics or similar subjects as majors,
*       Profound knowledge of multifrequent and multipolarimetric microwave evaluations as well as image processing with popular software,
*       Preparedness for field work on the Tibetan Plateau,
*       Excellent knowledge of English language,
*       Communicative skills and willingness for teamwork,
*       Personal PhD qualification desired.
